Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, CA
Dr. Gregory S. Keller, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon at Keller Plastic Surgery, offers blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, for men and women residing in or near Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and surrounding areas in California.
What is Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that removes sagging folds of skin from the upper and lower eyelids, as well as tightens muscle and skin tissue around the eye area.
How can Blepharoplasty rejuvenate my appearance?
Blepharoplasty eliminates sagging skin folds from the upper and lower eyelids, as well as beneath the eyes, making the upper face look more toned and youthful.
Does Blepharoplasty get rid of lines and wrinkles around the eyes?
Blepharoplasty removes sagging skin folds but does not eliminate lines and wrinkles that form at the corners of the eyes, such as laugh lines or crow’s feet. Dr. Keller may recommend that you combine a blepharoplasty procedure with an additional treatment to better address those concerns. Many patients choose to combine eyelid surgery with a brow lift to rejuvenate the entire upper face.
Does Blepharoplasty get rid of dark circles under the eyes?
Blepharoplasty may get rid of dark circles under the eyes when those dark circles are the result of excess skin folds or fat that has accumulated under the eyes; however, if the problem is hyperpigmentation, blepharoplasty may not be the indicated treatment for this, as you may be able to address the issue non-surgically.
How is a Blepharoplasty performed?
Blepharoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and requires tiny incisions through which loose, sagging skin and muscle tissue around the eye area are tightened, achieving a refreshed and youthful appearance.
Will Blepharoplasty affect my vision?
Blepharoplasty will not negatively affect a patient’s vision. In cases where excess skin may have been obstructing an individual’s vision, the procedure may actually improve that person’s eyesight.
Does Blepharoplasty require an extensive recovery period?
You should plan ahead for your procedure and make sure you enlist someone to drive you home after surgery, as you may experience blurred vision, tightness or numbing around the eyes, and possible bruising and swelling immediately after the surgery. Normally, these symptoms subside naturally within a week. We recommend that you rest for about a week until your stitches are removed. After two weeks, you can resume non-strenuous activities and begin wearing contact lenses if needed. Dr. Keller will provide you with detailed post-op care instructions. We also recommend wearing sunglasses and using sunblock to protect the entire eye area from exposure to sunlight.
